Altamont After School Care Program

After School Care will not operate for the time being due to early school dismissal time and Covid guidelines and restrictions.

Immanuel Lutheran Church will begin its 11th year of operation for the After School Care program when school begins at Altamont Grade School {AGS} and Altamont Lutheran Interparish School {ALIS}.

Enrollment Packets will be available at the Immanuel Church Parish Hall lobby and at the Altamont Lutheran School’s and the Altamont Grade School’s registration days.

Completed “Enrollment forms” must be turned in at the Altamont Lutheran School office by Friday, August 3rd and the Altamont Grade School office by Friday, August 10th. Families from either school may submit Enrollment forms to the Immanuel Church office.  Any students enrolling beyond the maximum allowable numbers or submitting enrollment forms after the August 10th deadline will be informed if they are on a “waiting list” and will be contacted when openings occur.

After School Care (ASC) is available for students in kindergarten through 6th grade from 3:15-5:30 p.m. on all regular school days and some selected early dismissal days. The intent is to offer the program at no required costs to participating families so as to not exclude families who cannot afford to participate.

The After School Care program should not be considered only as a place for children to hang out with friends or as a replacement for time being at home with parents and family.

In addition to the paid staff, the program welcomes volunteer workers to assist with student activities and homework time. Interested volunteers are encouraged to apply, even if only on a part time occasional basis.  Contact the Immanuel Church office for application details.  All volunteers must agree to a background check if requested.

Community service hours for high school students will again be made available for those interested in working.  Details will be made available at the high school.

The ASC is operated and supported by Immanuel Lutheran Church. Parents will again be requested to make snack donations on an approximately one day/month basis. The program has relied on financial support of the Southeastern Illinois Effingham County Community Foundation, Southwestern Electric Co-op Round Up program, local businesses, memorials and donations from individuals and families.

Fund raising and financial support will be needed to keep the program operating throughout the coming school year. Anyone wishing to make contributions or willing to plan a fund raising event are most welcome to do so.  The Immanuel After School Care {ASC} program qualifies as an organization allowing a tax deductable contribution. United Way of Effingham County has accepted the ASC program for the 2019-20 school year with fund raising beginning this Fall.
